Saving the Soul of the Cinema (2024)

With the rise of large multiplex theaters and OTT platforms such as Netflix, the demise of local single-screen cinemas began some time ago. Unfortunately, my suburban town, Tenafly, has seen its sole movie theater face a similar fate. Established in the 1920s, this historic theater boasts over 100 years of history, but now it stands abandoned and neglected. While I cannot save the theater itself, I can work to preserve the memories of my “Beloved Community.” To that end, I launched the Save Tenafly Cinema Project, aiming to raise awareness about the theater’s story within our community.
